Manish Jain received B.Tech (1997) in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and Ph.D. (2002) in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Minnesota. From 2002 until 2008 he worked at Corporate Research Laboratory, 3M Company in St. Paul (MN) as a Senior Research Engineer, where he contributed to research projects over a wide range of topics such as non-precious metal catalysts (fuelcells and CO oxidation), acoustic materials and solar-control films. From 2008 to 2012 he was as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of California, Berkeley. Since December 2012 he is a faculty member at the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science. At IISc he established the Quantum Theory of Materials group with graduate students, postdocs and research assistants, with whom he conducts research on developing methods and understanding electronic, optical, structural and dynamical properties of materials.
