Quantum Computing by NMR in which the group has used transition and spin-selective pulses in one and two dimensional NMR to (i) prepare pseudo-pure states (ii) execute logical gates and (iii) implement Deutsch-Jozse quantum algorithm.

Condolence note on the passing of Prof Anil Kumar

Prof Anil Kumar completed his PhD from IIT Kanpur in 1969 and MSc (first class) in 1961 from Meerut College. He joined the Department of Physics at IISc in January 1977 as a Senior Scientific Officer. He then became Assistant Professor in 1982, Associate Professor in 1984 and Professor from 1990 until 2003. He also served as Chair of the Department. Prof Anil Kumar was also associated with the NMR facility as its convenor. Prof Anil Kumar had an illustrious career in magnetic resonance, working on various aspects of spectroscopy and imaging. Multiple quantum phenomena, cross-correlated relaxation, multidimensional NMR, strong-coupling effects, and quantum computation and information with NMR – these are just a part of the areas where he left a mark. He also left a strong impact on the field by mentoring a large number of students, many of whom are in leading positions of academia and industry worldwide. His personality was a charismatic one, accompanied with his ever-friendly laughter. He will be greatly missed.
