Biophysics is an exciting area of research where principles of Statistical Physics are used to understand biological systems quantitatively. This field is well represented in the Physics Dept. of IISc where faculty members are involved in research on biological systems ranging from molecular scale of lipids and proteins to all the way of organism scales of single cell algae. The department has expertise in both theoretical and experimental approaches to study these complex systems. The experiments are led by the groups of Prof. Jaydeep Basu, Prof. Ambarish Ghosh, Prof. Prerna Sharma and Prof. Ajay Sood. Theoretical and computational approaches are being developed by the groups of Prof. Prabal Maiti, Prof. Sumantra Sarkar, Prof. Rahul Pandit, and Prof. Sriram Ramaswamy.
